Eugene O’Neill’s Sea Plays at the Old Vic Tunnels

I’ve recently completed music and sound for Kenneth Hoyt’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s Sea Plays, at the Old Vic Tunnels from 23rd Jan to 18th Feb. A co-production with the Old Vic, and commissioned by Kevin Spacey, the unique space beneath Waterloo Station is the perfect setting for three of O’Neill’s Sea Plays Bound East For Cardiff, In The Zone and The Long Voyage Home. To read more about the production click here. I’ll be putting up some music from the show here shortly…

DNA written by Dennis Kelly

I’m just completing music and sound for DNA written by Dennis Kelly (who recently adapted the RSC’s acclaimed Matilda). Directed by Anthony Banks (who originally commissioned the play as part of NT Connections in 2007), it is on a UK tour until May, at 19 venues including the Crucible Studio Sheffield, Royal Exchange Manchester, Unicorn London and Tobacco Factory Bristol. To find out more about where it is showing, click here.

“McCullin” Feature Documentary

I’m presently composing for 90min feature doc McCullin, directed by Jacqui Morris and produced by James Gay-Rees (previous films include Senna and Banksy’s Exit Through The Gift Shop). Beautifully shot on 16mm film, it is about war photographer Don McCullin – whose images from the wars in Vietnam, Congo, Beirut and Biafra for the Sunday Times were amongst some of the most iconic photographs from the 20th Century. A cinema release for the film is scheduled for 2012.

Othello at the Sheffield Crucible

I was composer and sound designer for Othello directed by Daniel Evans which enjoyed a completely sell out run at the Sheffield Crucible September to October 2011, featuring Dominic West and Clarke Peters as Iago and Othello – a pair previously seen together on hit American TV series “The Wire”. To find out more about the production visit the Crucible’s own website here. Some of my soundtrack to the show is available to listen below;

Earthquakes in London on tour

I’m presently working on additional music and arrangements for the Headlong / National Theatre tour of Earthquakes in London.. I composed for the original show last year, directed by Rupert Goold and written by Mike Bartlett, which enjoyed a sell out run at the NT’s Cottesloe Theatre. The tour starts in Plymouth on 22nd September and finishes at Cambridge Arts Centre on 12th November 2011. For more information visit the Headlong website here.

The Faith Machine at the Royal Court

I’ve recently completed sound and music for The Faith Machine, presently playing at the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre downstairs until 1st October. Working with fellow LIPA graduate director Jamie Lloyd and written by Alexi Kaye Campbell, the cast includes Hayley Atwell and Ian McDiarmid. To read more about the production and book tickets visit the Royal Court website here. Here is a selection of some of my music for the show;

Merchant of Venice and Hobson’s Choice

After a rather busy May, two projects I’ve been working on have recently opened to great critical success. The first being Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice directed by Rupert Goold at the RSC who turned a few heads setting the play in modern day Las Vegas (complete with 8-piece big band and numerous Elvis songs given a modern twist by myself and Adam Cork).

Read the Guardian review for Merchant here.

The second was a new production of Harold Brighouse’s Hobson’s Choice at the Sheffield Crucible directed by Christopher Luscombe.. here’s a little snippet of my score from the production…

Frankenstein directed by Danny Boyle

After months of work, Frankenstein has just opened to great reviews at the National Theatre. I’ve been working with amazing electro duo Underworld (Rick Smith and Karl Hyde) as well as grammy award winning mix engineer Simon Gogerly on the music and sound to the show directed by Danny Boyle. Watch out for the live cinema broadcasts on 17th and 24th March.

Made in England – 7.30pm, Channel 4, 18th Feb

I’ve written the music to the Channel 4 documentary Made in England produced by Century Films. A film about Cooper and Stollbrand, one of the last surviving clothes factories in Salford, director Satnam Authi followed the machinists and management in their busy run up to Christmas producing items for many well known British high street brands.

The whole programme is available to watch on 4oD here.

I’ve posted some music clips from the programme below;
