Continuing a brilliantly creative relationship with ad agency Wieden + Kennedy (having previously contributed music to award winning campaigns including Lurpak, Tesco Christmas and most recently Finish) I’ve just completed work on composing music for a new film for Arla Skyr called “The Messenger”. Beautifully shot by Dougal Wilson through Blink, the short was filmed in Iceland and tells the story of a young messenger..

I’ve just written the music to a dishwasher tablets ad. Although this one was rather fun… for the brilliantly creative folks at Wieden + Kennedy, directed by the wonderful collective of Megaforce, and music produced along with the fab SIREN, this is a Finish ad like no other.. quirky little instruments recorded at my studio, with the small orchestral elements recorded at Abbey Road with the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

I’ve been working on a number of arrangements for Tesco’s Christmas television advertising campaign which launched yesterday, produced by the brilliant Wieden + Kennedy (who I previously collaborated with for the multi award winning Lurpak “The Cook”). The launch film consists of a brass band arrangement of Irene Cara’s “What A Feeling” which I arranged for 20 piece brass band (consisting of the London Metropolitan Orchestra), which was recorded in London’s Abbey Road Studio 2.
More films from the campaign will be released in the coming weeks.

Very happy that my score for Lurpak‘s worldwide advertising campaign “Weave Your Magic” for Wieden + Kennedy has been nominated for “Best Original Composition” in the Television Advertising category at the Music + Sounds Awards 2014. Already the winner of a Cannes Lion Silver Award, the film was directed by Scott Lyon and features the voice of Blade Runner’s Rutger Hauer. The score was recorded in Abbey Road Studio 2 with the London Metropolitan Orchestra and Choir.

Very happy that Wieden + Kennedy have won a Cannes Lion Silver Award for their film The Cook (see below) for Lurpak, for which I composed and arranged the music recorded at Abbey Road Studio with the London Metropolitan Orchestra and Choir earlier this year.
Back in London, the reviews have come in for The Cripple of Inishmaan directed by Michael Grandage in the West End, with some 5 star reviews including this from the Telegraph (here) and this from the New York Times (here) – the second time Ben Brantley has mentioned my music this month (the other one being Cornelius which is presently showing in New York).
Alex Baranowski’s evocative music set the scene without being as overbearing as much music in drama has become lately – here is a composer who understands theatre. (Broadway World).
The show stars Daniel Radcliffe and is on at the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End until August 2013. Watch the trailer below (with some snippets of the music);
Finally, I’ve been working on the latest series of TV commercials for UK supermarket Waitrose – with a number of films being broadcast in the last few months including this one below.. the music has been rather popular, with numerous people asking if I’m going to release the full piece (alas not!).
